SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

FIGHTING BACK – OVERNIGHT:  Ah, old Princeton.  Not a place where you usually find revolution.  But some of the Princeton tigers are actually proving to be real tigers, the conservative kind.  From College Fix:  A group of more than 60 undergraduate students at Princeton University has called out a dean’s statement critical of the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict as a violation of administrators’ obligation to remain officially neutral on controversial issues.  The students addressed an open letter to university President Christopher Eisgruber in response to a Nov. 20 email by Amaney Jamal, dean of the Princeton School for Public and International Affairs (pictured).  Jamal had used the school’s email server to send a message to all students in which she called Rittenhouse a “vigilante,” stated the not guilty finding sets “a dangerous precedent,” and asserted that “there are racial inequities in nearly every strand of the American fabric.”  The students’ Nov. 24 letter is signed by members of the Princeton Open Campus Coalition and published on the Princetonians for Free Speech website.  They write that Jamal’s use of her administrative position to advance her views on the case “exerts pressure” on dissenting students to conform. Jamal’s official statement, they argued, suppresses honest debate and truth-seeking regarding the case.  The writers clarify that they do not object to Jamal’s views and uphold her right to advance them as an academic and a citizen. However, they argued:  "What motivates our letter is a concern about the implications of a University administrator, speaking in her official capacity, promulgating to an entire community of students her moral evaluation of the outcome of a highly publicized and controversial trial. Her doing so in effect places [the School for Public and International Affairs]’s institutional support behind a particular position on a matter which, as it engages the interests of so many, should invite a vigorous and respectful conversation amongst students and faculty alike."   It takes guts to go up against the administratioon of an Ivy League school.  We need to reinforce these kids by voting in a new, conservative Congress in November, which will have the power to cut off federal aid to academic programs that don't pass the laugh test.  Even at Princeton.

THE LATEST MADNESS; HAPPY HOLIDAYS – OVERNIGHT:  For the far left, there are no holidays, just some days when they can push more of their insane agenda into the faces of the American people.  Get this one.    From Fox:

Washington state lawmakers introduced a bill this month that would reduce penalties for drive-by shootings with the aim of "promoting racial equity."

The bill, introduced by Democratic Representatives Tarra Simmons and David Hackney ahead of the state's 2022 legislative session, would eliminate drive-by shootings as the basis for elevating a first-degree murder charge to aggravated murder in the first degree, which carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment.

Drive-by shootings were added to the list of aggravating factors for murder charges in 1995. Other aggravating factors include the murder of law enforcement officers, murders committed by inmates while they are behind bars, and murder-for-hire schemes.

The aggravating factor that the bill would eliminate reads: "The murder was committed during the course of or as a result of a shooting where the discharge of the firearm… is either from a motor vehicle or from the immediate area of a motor vehicle that was used to transport the shooter or the firearm."

Rep. Simmons, who represents a district in western Washington, argued that "it’s clear that it was targeted at gangs that were predominantly young and Black."

"I believe in a society that believes in the power of redemption," she told Fox News Digital in a statement. "Murder is murder no matter where the bullet comes from but locking young people up and throwing away the key is not the answer."

COMMENT:  Unfortunately, it often is the answer, at least the best one we have.  The country is properly tired of theoretical propositions, flown in from Lenin country, to make things easier for militant murderers.  These are horrendous killers.  The very worst.  We don't need a law in any state to make things easier for them.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

THIS HAS TO BE STOPPED BY PUBLIC PRESSURE – FROM REDSTATE:  In the latest example of corporate America kowtowing to the Communists in Beijing, internal memos and Amazon.com insiders have revealed the company’s continuing appeasement of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), including colluding with state propaganda operatives to delete reviews of books critical of the regime.  Notably, as reported by Reuters, Amazon caved in like a cheap Mao suit to a CCP edict that it stop allowing negative customer ratings and reviews of the book “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China,” which contains many of Xi’s speeches and writings, as well as other state propaganda.  It gets worse.  Said a company insider, according to Reuters: “I think the issue was anything under five stars.”  Currently, on the Chinese site Amazon.com, the government-published book has no customer reviews, ratings, nor even a working “comments” section, all of which are included on other Amazon.com sites.  The record will show that a number of American corporations collaborated with the Nazis before World War II, and some have been charged by researchers for collaborating during the war itself.  No one gets punished.

CONFRONTING THE MADNESS  – OVERNIGHT:  We are getting warnings every day from prominent physicians that the response to the newest wave of Covid 19 is way over the top.  From Breitbart:

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Faulkner Focus,” Fox News Medical Contributor and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Professor Dr. Marty Makary argued that the biggest failure in the coronavirus pandemic response is the failure to tailor policies based on individual risk, and that “those who have chosen not to get vaccinated and have not had COVID, they do so at their own individual risk. We’ve never seen this level of martial law and paternalism to prevent mild infection in 300 million Americans.”

Makary said, [relevant remarks begin around 4:45] “Look, the greatest failure of the pandemic response by public health officials has been the failure to recognize that the risk of this virus is not equally distributed in the population, and while it may have made sense when we didn’t know what we were dealing with to have one simple message for everybody. Now, it has to be custom-tailored. That means if — look, if somebody has no immunity and they’re old and vulnerable, they’ve got no vaccinated and no natural immunity, sure, they need to be very careful. We need to protect those people right now. But the risk in a young, healthy person is very different from somebody in that situation. We’ve never acknowledged that we need to custom-tailor the policies according to the individuals. And those who have chosen not to get vaccinated and have not had COVID, they do so at their own individual risk. We’ve never seen this level of martial law and paternalism to prevent mild infection in 300 million Americans.”

COMMENT:  Well said.  Look, I'm vaccinated.  I'm on the short list to be boosted.  I have nothing against vaccines that work, or at least reduce risk.  But others have individual circumstances and medical histories.  The advice should be to consult your physician.

Socialists know that the fastest way to power is to promote a crisis, and use it to generate fear.  People understandably turn to government.   We've had the Covid 19 virus with us for two years.  It's being successfully fought.  We know it's not going to wipe out civilization.  And yet we see various establishments acting as if the world were at death's door.

Calm down.  And tell that to the president as well.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
